Marta Cikojevic, widely recognized for her work with the Montreal-based indie outfit TOPS, is set to release her second solo album under the moniker Marci. Titled Mask Lady And Late Night Girl, the record is scheduled for release on August 28 via Arbutus Records. The project serves as an exploration of the thematic and personal dualities Cikojevic has encountered since relocating to Hollywood.
- Conceptual Framework: The album’s narrative is anchored by two contrasting alter egos. As Cikojevic notes, the “Late Night Girl” embodies a reckless, eternal party mindset, whereas the “Masked Lady” represents the guarded, introspective side responsible for containing complex emotional realities.
- Sonic Aesthetic: The newly released single, “Liquid Heartbeat,” leans into a bleary, synth-driven soundscape. It is accompanied by an Elliot Weaver-directed music video that effectively captures the track’s edge of glamorous, lo-fi hedonism.
- Preceding Releases: This latest track follows the album’s lead single, “Butterfly Sticker,” which successfully established the shimmery, infectious pop sensibilities that define the Marci project.
- Anticipated Release: With this sophomore effort, Cikojevic continues to refine her solo identity, promising a compelling blend of upbeat synth-pop and nuanced emotional introspection.
