Canadian-born, Los Angeles-based independent artist and actress Hayley Law has announced the release of her debut studio album, Last Summer, scheduled for digital and vinyl release on August 14. Co-produced by Law alongside Jesse Boykins III and MeLo-X, the self-released LP traverses alt-R&B, pop-rock, and Y2K pop soundscapes while delivering diaristic songwriting focused on themes of vulnerability, control, and relationship dynamics.
- Sonic Versatility: The album showcases Law’s dynamic range, contrasting the lush instrumentation and smooth falsetto of “Tongue Tied” with the hypnotic, synth-based R&B of “Baby Voice”—a track Law notes is an exploration of the persuasive and seductive power of femininity.
- The Lead Single: The project is anchored by its newly released title track, a punchy, guitar-driven effort tackling the bitter aftermath of a romantic severing. According to Law, the track serves as a karmic response to a former partner.
- Visual Companions: Alongside the single, Law released a spontaneous acoustic performance video for “Last Summer,” directed by Rob Horwitz and filmed at Boykins’ Peace Tree Studio.
- Independent Trajectory: Known to audiences for her acting roles in Riverdale and the upcoming film Flyover, Law has quietly built a formidable, entirely self-directed music career. With over 4 million organic streams to date, Last Summer promises to solidify her reputation as a nuanced and intentional songwriter operating outside traditional industry pathways.
