Interpol has announced their return with This Mirror Weighs a Ton, their first full-length studio effort since 2022’s The Other Side of Make-Believe. Scheduled for release on August 28 under their new label, Partisan, the project is heralded by the simultaneous release of the title track and the single “See Out Loud.” Produced by Andrew Wyatt in Manhattan and mixed by veteran engineer David Fridmann, the record promises a compelling evolution of the band’s signature sound.
- Vocal Dynamics: A notable highlight of the new material is “See Out Loud,” which marks a rare vocal turn for guitarist Daniel Kessler—his first time on the microphone since “PDA” from their seminal debut album.
- Production and Sound Design: The collaboration with Wyatt appears to have pushed the band’s creative boundaries. According to Kessler, Wyatt’s unconventional sound design and heavy percussive crashes on the title track initially suggested an instrumental piece, before frontman Paul Banks intuitively laid down the defining vocal melodies.
