Triggerfinger ►On My Back

Very few bands have the audacity to unleash a staggering five singles in the lead-up to a brand-new record, but Belgian national rock pride Triggerfinger plays by entirely their own rules! Nearly a year ago, the band opened a courageous new chapter with “Stars,” marking their first steps forward following the departure—and tragic passing just a week later—of beloved bassist Paul “Lange Polle” Van Bruystegem. With deep respect carved into their hearts (and his boots stationed proudly on stage during every live show), the remaining core duo of Mario Goossens and Ruben Block, powerfully bolstered live by guitarist Geoffrey Burton, forged steadily ahead into new sonic territory. Next month, that journey materializes in full with the release of their sixth studio album, Tarmac, arriving September 18, 2026—but not before one final, moody pitstop.

  • The Atmospheric Mystery of “On My Back”: Opening with a shroud of deep, quiet mystery, “On My Back” immediately makes it clear that we aren’t getting a blistering, high-octane blowout today. Instead, it showcases that hypnotic, shadowy side of Triggerfinger’s artistry that they master just as effortlessly. Block steps up to the mic draped in subtle vocal effects, anchored by intricate string-plucking and percussion pushed much further into the background than usual for the powerhouse outfit.
  • A Hypnotic Meditation: Across nearly four minutes, the track’s title phrase is repeated heavily, creating a hypnotic, trance-like chant that leaves little room for standard structural variation. While it might not function as an explosive set-opener or a grand finale, it serves as a compelling, atmospheric narrative bridge as the clock ticks down to the arrival of Tarmac on September 18.

The MusicWayATX Verdict: “On My Back” is a brooding, reflective taste of a band walking through the fire and coming out the other side with their artistic integrity intact. Triggerfinger continues to honor their legacy while carving out new, unexpected textures. Tarmac is shaping up to be an essential, emotionally weighted release.
