For a quarter-century, Atash stood as a crown jewel of Austin’s cultural landscape—voted the city’s best world music act—largely due to Roberto’s boundless passion and cross-cultural brilliance. Guiding the ensemble through a seamless fusion of Middle Eastern, Latin, jazz, and global traditions, he brought to life the Rumi-inspired ethos that “everything is music.” Under his stewardship, Atash became more than a band; it became a community, a vehicle for global harmony, and an institution of boundary-pushing artistry.

Roberto was instrumental in shaping Austin’s reputation as a diverse sonic hub, bringing world music out of niche circles and into the vibrant heart of the city’s iconic venues.
