Must See Shows and DJ Sets with Kinky, Centavrvs, El Mató a Un Policia Motorizado and MIS

It’s the same dilemma this time of year in Austin – so many great shows, parties and events in a small amount of time! If you’re at SXSW this week Nacional Records has great artists you should be hanging with.

Days after their MTV Unplugged album was released, Kinky closed the first leg of their U.S. tour with a sold-out show in Los Angeles. Kinky is back with coast-to-coast U.S. concert dates, starting with the Panamericana Festival on March 21.

Catch the artfully sweet lo-fi sound of El Mató a un Policía Motorizado, a band whose music conjures melodic noise rock reminiscent of Pavement and Guided by Voices – but so much their own sound. The Argentine band’s recent release “La Dinastía Scorpio” is full of intricately crafted melodies and profound-yet-simple lyrics that range from confrontational politics to the perils of love. It came out in cool vinyl as well.

Be sure to check out Centavrvs, a band named for the mythical creature, and watch them create equally mythical melodies as they play tracks off their first full-length LP, “Sombras de Oro.” Centavrvs originally started as a tribute to the Mexican Revolution, and now the group is sparking their own musical revolution — incorporating hypnotic sounds with dulcet vocals and the occasional nod to cumbia and corridos.

And stop by and say hi to Camilo Lara, aka Mexican Institute of Sound (M.I.S) who is bringing his explosive club bangers to SXSW with DJ sets with Toy Selectah and also some shows with their latest project, Compass.
